Biography

Alfonso Muñoz,painter and woodcarverborn in Yecla (Murcia) in 1957.

His sensitivity for rural, bullfighting and religious landscapes and characters stands out.Byzantine technique with a rich chromatism, defines the painter’s own style.

His works show a mystical halo of Franciscan spirituality, sweet melancholy, romanticism, in the faces and hands of his characters.

He is recognized for his restoration work in numerous churches with polychrome woodwork and large format icon paintings. In 2013, six icons were erected on the main altar of the church of Christ the Redeemer, located in the Murcian town of Santiago de la Ribera, consisting of a Pantocrator of almost 3 meters and five pictures of biblical scenes painted on canvases on wooden frames using a mixed technique of oil and acrylic, with the backgrounds and haloes of the saints gilded with gold leaf.

His pictorial work featuring religious themes -of medium and small format-, was also extended to various private collections.

In addition to the great painting production -decoration of 25 churches around the provinces of Murcia, Alicante and Madrid-, Alfonso has signed an important work in reliefs and sculptures: virgins, crucified Christs, saints, tabernacles and Bible pastes.

The artist from Yecla is an accomplished masterin the bullfighting theme represented by figures of bullfighters and lances in the ritual of the bullring.

His artistic production also includes hundreds of landscapes, still lifes, seascapes and portraits, as well as illustrations for books, magazines and newspaper pages with drawings, gouaches and oil paintings of bullfighting.

His exhibitions are numerous throughout the national geography. He is a consolidated artist, recognized mainly by his oil on canvas paintings, wood carvings and polychromies in churches.
